"My friend "Kas" Kastner was Triumph's Competition Manager in the US. We often discussed the reluctance of the British to build a really cool looking production car, like the Japanese were doing with the Toyota 2000 and Datsun 240Z. We agreed that if the TR6 chassis from those days had a more efficient body shape it could easily compete with the Porsche 911s. He was able to secure a small budget from the US office to build a prototype for the '67 season. We started out thinking coupe (for Le Mans) but as the weeks slipped by with no money we had to modify our thinking. The coupe became a roadster and we took it to Sebring for the 12 Hours."
