"The first Daytona Cobra Coupe was built so quickly (just 90 days from idea to track) that it had single digit hours of testing on it when it went to its inaugural race at Daytona in January 1964. After the car's (CSX 2887) race at Daytona, I wanted to further test airflow on and around the coupe's body. I attached numerous tufts of yarn to the surface.
Test driver Lew Spencer took CSX 2287 on the track at Riverside and I went out with Ken Miles in a Cobra roadster to record the results with my camera. Since the roadster couldn't run as fast as the coupe the test was limited to about 140 MPH. It was enough though to show the yarn tufts were laying flat against the car, indicating that the air was undisturbed making its way around the car." Peter Brock
