"Cobra Daytona CSX 2287, seen here at Spa, Belgium 1964 with the 'wing' I'd been asking for.

The car arrived at Spa just after it had tested at Le Mans, without the rear wing that I had originally designed for it. Phil Hill went out to test on the super-fast circuit and came in stating the car was "unmanageable", the rear lift threatening to cause a crash!

The only at-track solution was to fit a rear spoiler. With no time and only a small piece of aluminum sheet to work with, Crew Chief Phil Remington cut the sheet into four pieces and screwed them together to make a spoiler. He attached it to the back and used two pieces of welding rod to keep the fragile blade from folding over at 180 mph.

With this fix Hill broke the lap record three times!" Peter Brock
