In 1970, the Datsun 240Z was new to the world. Peter Brock's BRE team entered two Zs into SCCA C Production competition that year. One was John Morton's red #46 and the other was John McComb's #3 blue Z. Initial teething problems with the engine's crankshafts almost scuttled their regional qualifications for the ARRC. Late season development overcame the problems however and Morton swept to victory at Road Atlanta, followed by Bob Sharp in his Sharp Racing 240Z and in third was Morton's teammate John McComb. A clean Z sweep in its first year of production!

If you've followed John Morton's career, you know the sight of this unrestrained smile is a rarity. It was Morton's first National Championship and he deserved every bit of attention he was getting not only from his team and the fans, but also from Miss ARRC on the left and Johnny Carson's wife Joanne Carson, on the right.
