"The Porsche Racers" Original watercolor, pencil, and ink art by George Bartell
Actual Art Size: 30 1/2” x 19“ Framed: 35 7/8” x 25 3/8”

Ferdinand Porsche founded his iconic company in 1931. His son Ferry (seen here just behind his father) was instrumental in building what many consider the first Porsche, the 356. This amazing piece of original art, by well respected artist George Bartell, highlights Porsche’s race history from the 550 Spyders to the 911, 906, 956, 917s, CanAm racers, Le Mans Champions and more. Bartell captured in this water color, pencil and ink work, the spirit of Porsche as only he can. The more you look the more you see, from the cars to the famous sponsors, drivers and teams such as Rothman, Gulf Wyer, Mark Donahue. It’s an intriguing and beautiful homage to Porsche’s race history.

This piece comes directly from the artist’s archive with a certificate of authenticity signed by Peter Brock. Brock, a world renowned automotive designer, met Bartell when they both attended Art Center College of Design in the mid ‘50s. Years later when Brock was creating Cobra ads for Shelby American and had no cars to photograph, Brock hired Bartell to “create” cars via his artwork. Those ads have become iconic symbols of the era.

It’s art you love the moment you see it and that you appreciate more each day. As George would explain: "The brain is amazing. You just give it an idea and it will fill in the rest." Never ‘overworked’, some of George's best art is of the automotive industry, in which he is best known and respected.

This art, created using water colors and pens and whatever else was within arm’s reach of the dynamic Bartell, is painted on heavyweight illustration board. The art is professionally framed, mounted on top of an acid free matt so the entire piece, including its depth, is visible. Spacers were then placed in the high quality black wooden frame between the matt and the high quality Plexiglas top so the piece stands proud of its background. Viewers will know they’re looking at an original piece.

This art comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, signed by automotive designer Peter Brock (photo seen here of Brock autographing certificate), stating that he personally received the art from the artist at Bartell’s home in 2008 and that it is being offered for sale for the first time this March 2013. The certificate also contains a picture of the artwork and states the medium of the art and the size of the art itself and with the framing.

This is a rare opportunity to own an original by one of America’s most respected automotive artists!
