"The King" Original watercolor, pen, and ink art by George Bartell
Actual Art Size: 37 3/4" x 30"

We all know "The King", Richard Petty, one of the greatest and most admired drivers motorsports has ever had. Petty won the NASCAR Championship seven times. He won a record 200 races during his career, including the Daytona 500 a record seven times. In the 1967 season he won a record 27 races (ten of them consecutively). Talk about domination!

Statistically he is the greatest driver the sport has ever seen and is one of the most respected figures in motorsports as a whole. He also collected a record number of poles (127) and over 700 top-ten finishes in his 1,185 starts, including 513 consecutive starts from 1971-1989. Petty is a member of the inaugural class of the NASCAR Hall of Fame, being inducted into the Hall in 2010.

This is one of the most stunning pieces of art of The King you will ever see. World respected artist George Bartell (1933-2013), painted this piece in the early 90s to pay tribute to Petty's incredible accomplishments and winning personality. Bartell captured in this water color, pencil and ink work, the spirit of Petty as only he can. The more you look the more you see, from the cars to the tracks, his signature STP sponsorship, checkered flags, you name it, it's subliminally there! And Bartell's portraits are unequaled. The King appears three times. You have to go decades back but Petty did once appear in public without a mustache, a feathered hat and sunglasses and Bartell captures that time in history perfectly. It's an intriguing and beautiful homage to Petty the racer. And at a beautifully framed, impressive 43"x 35" it makes a statement no matter where you place it!

This piece comes directly from the artist"s archive with a certificate of authenticity signed by Peter Brock. Brock, a world renowned automotive designer, met Bartell when they both attended Art Center College of Design in the mid '50s. Years later when Brock was creating Cobra ads for Shelby American and had no cars to photograph, Brock hired Bartell to "create" cars via his artwork. Those ads have become iconic symbols of the era.

It's art you love the moment you see it and that you appreciate more each day. As George would explain: "The brain is amazing. You just give it an idea and it will fill in the rest." Never "overworked", some of George's best art is of the automotive industry, in which he is best known and respected.

This art, created using water colors and pens and whatever else was within arm's reach of the dynamic Bartell, is painted on heavyweight illustration board.

This art piece is signed by Bartell followed by the AFAS insignia which Bartell proudly included to indicate he is a member of the elite Automotive Fine Arts Society, a small group of painters and sculptors who are recognized for their portrayals of the automobile. Viewers will know they're looking at an original piece.

The Certificate of Authenticity (example above) states that Brock personally received the art from the artist at Bartell's home in 2008 and that it was offered for sale for the first time in April 2013. The certificate also contains a picture of the artwork and states the medium of the art and the size of the art itself.

This is a rare opportunity to own the original, "The King", by one of America's most respected automotive artists!
