"Senna On The Rise" signed original gouache (opaque watercolor) art by George Bartell
Art actual size 20" x 29 ¾". Art is sold unframed.
Ayrton Senna was the Brazilian racing driver who was the youngest driver to win three Formula One world championships. Shockwaves were felt throughout the world when he was killed in an accident while leading the San Marino Grand Prix in 1994.
Senna made his Formula One debut with the Toleman-Hart team in 1984 before moving to Lotus-Renault in 1985 where he won six Grand Prix over the next three seasons (including wins in the 1987 Lotus Honda-powered car seen in this art). In 1988, Senna joined the McLaren-Honda team. Senna has often been voted as one of the greatest Formula One drivers of all time in various motorsport polls.
With the 1987 Lotus, Honda-powered car seen in this George Bartell art, Senna proved he was a contender. He would go on to become the youngest ever three-time Formula 1 champion. The recently deceased artist, George Bartell (1933-2013), captured the beloved driver and his historic car in this gouache (opaque watercolor) painting as only he can... with an elegance and understated minimalist style that captures everything and even more than your eye will see at first glance.
This art piece is signed by the artist, George Bartell, followed by the AFAS insignia which Bartell proudly included to indicate he was a member of the elite Automotive Fine Arts Society, a small group of painters and sculptors who are recognized for their portrayals of the automobile. It comes directly from the artist's archive with a certificate of authenticity.
Peter Brock, world renowned automotive designer, met artist George Bartell when they both attended Art Center College of Design in the mid '50s. Years later when Brock was creating Cobra ads for Shelby American and had no cars to photograph, Brock hired Bartell to "create" cars via his artwork. Those ads have become iconic symbols of the era.
While visiting Bartell in his Southern California home in 2008, Bartell turned over his private collection (of which this Ayrton Senna artwork was included) to Brock to manage as he saw fit. With Bartell's passing, Brock is offering these amazing pieces of original art to the public for the first time.
It's art you love the moment you see it and that you appreciate more each day. As George would explain: "The brain is amazing. You just give it an idea and it will fill in the rest." Never "overworked", some of George's best art is of the automotive industry, in which he is best known and respected.
This art comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, signed by automotive designer Peter Brock stating that he personally received the art from the artist at Bartell's home in 2008 and that it was offered for sale for the first time in April 2013. The certificate also contains a picture of the artwork and states the medium of the art and the size of the art itself.
This is a rare opportunity to own an original of one of Formula One's greatest drivers and by one of America's most respected automotive artists!
