Championship driver John Morton’s successes with the BRE (Brock Racing Enterprises) team from ’69-’72 were well chronicled in one of the best motorsports books ever written, Sylvia Wilkinson’s “Stainless Steel Carrot”. John now takes to pen and paper himself and shares, in entertaining detail, what led to his championship years, specifically, but not exclusively, his years at Shelby American.

Many of us know that John is a talented driver and entertaining speaker. We now learn he has a gift with the pen as well. John starts at the beginning and leads us from his Midwestern childhood to how he came across the Carroll Shelby School of High Performance Racing at Riverside Raceway in California to fulfilling his dream of driving for team Shelby. Arriving at the school expecting to be taught to drive by Le Mans winning driver Carroll Shelby, Morton was understandably disappointed to be met by instructor Pete Brock. As Morton says today with his traditional dry wit, “I guess I can say that turned out okay”. Mutual respect between Brock and Morton led to a deep friendship and successful race partnership with Brock’s BRE Datsun team post Shelby American that has lasted their lifetimes.

That friendship and Brock being included in several sections of Morton’s Shelby book led John to ask Brock to offer his book autographed by both of them. Brock readily agreed so your book will be autographed by both author and Championship driver John Morton and Peter Brock (Shelby driving instructor, designer of the Cobra Daytona Coupe and owner/team manager of the Championship BRE Datsun team).
