Peter Brock: I’ve always liked this photograph of the Tourist Trophy that ran in 1965 at the Oulton Park Circuit in England. Not only does it show three different examples of Cobras (Roadster, Daytona Coupe, Willment Coupe) but there was a 10 year-old boy in attendance that would later effect history.   That 10 year old boy named Charles, was Lord Settrington at the time, the heir to the Goodwood estate. His grandfather, Freddie Richmond, started the Goodwood Motor Circuit on the estate in 1948. May 1st, 1965, young Charles watched as fellow countryman Jack Sears, drove an exotic looking Daytona Cobra Coupe and was smitten with the car. Fast forward to 2015, Charles was now the Earl of March and Kinrara, living on the Goodwood estate and in charge of the Goodwood Motorsports Revival event. He performed the miraculous feat of having all six Daytona Cobra Coupes brought to the Goodwood Revival. It was the first time all six cars had ever been together in one location. Whenever I see this photo I think of that 10 year old boy, now the Duke of Richmond, Lennox and Gordon, who I am eternally grateful to for his appreciation of the Daytona Cobra Coupe. --------- In 2005, the annual poster used this striking scene of the Alan Mann pits at the 1965 Oulton Park Tourist Trophy race. Rarely seen is this line-up of a Cobra roadster, a Cobra Daytona Coupe and the Willment Coupe. The Willment Coupe, built in England, was intended to be a copy of the Cobra Daytona Coupe. This photo illustrates how truly different its form is from the graceful Daytona, a shape that appears only Peter Brock can create. Jack Sears was next in the Cobra Daytona Coupe csx 2299 finishing 3rd, while Frank Gardner placed 6th driving the Willment Cobra Coupe csx 2131.
